A Message from Helen Crawley-Austin
Hi Money Masters!
As I look around, I am reminded of the many blessings I have in my life. Reflecting on these blessings this time of year always makes me feel completely grateful for all of my loyal Money Masters, like you! It is my pleasure to keep sharing with you the resources we need to stay on track of our financial goals.
As a thank you, I would like to share this savings tip with you. Feel free to share it with your loved ones this Thanksgiving as you celebrate your blessings together…
THE 30-DAY RULE
The 30-day rule is a simple “trick” you can use to control impulse spending, thus, saving you money. It might come in handy, especially during the Holiday season 😉
Step 1:
Whenever you feel like you just have to buy something (i.e. a new purse, the latest game for your child) immediately tell yourself “No”. If the item is in your shopping cart or hand, put it away and leave the store or that area of the store.
Step 2:
When you get home, write down the item, store, price and DATE. Place the note where you can easily see it.
Step 3:
For the next 30 days, think about if you really still want that item, but don’t buy it.
Step 4:
At the end of the 30 days, make your decision based on if the urge to get the item is still there. If so, double check your budget to make sure there is room and use cash, not credit.
I hope this little tip helps you during this busy season of giving. At the least, maybe it can provide good conversation while everyone is waiting for the pies to be served!
From my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
-Helen
