Chillin, Grillin, and Saving Cash
ABC world news “Real Money” did a report on how much money people can save by eating at home. They picked a family and decided to do a test to see if fast food was really faster and if it indeed cost more. The mission: Determine which is faster – home-cooked dinner or fast food.
The husband went out and ordered a full chicken and rice and beans, the wife and ABC staff member stayed at home and cooked fish and vegetables. So who won?
The husband who went out clocked in at 31 minutes while the wife who cooked clocked in at 22 minutes. And the cost: $22 for the drive-thru and $12 for the home-cooked meal.
The lesson learned is not only does cooking at home cost less it is also faster. Add in the fact that it is summer, which means we can throw food on the grill and eliminate cleaning up the kitchen!
There are 30 more days left in the 90-Day Savings Challenge. Let’s see how much more you can save by Chillin, Grillin, and Saving Cash for the month of June.
